Walter G. Deschene, age 82 of Methuen passed away on February 3, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. Walter was born in Lawrence on April 12, 1935 to the late Ludger and Cecile (Maurice) Deschene. He was a former shipper and driver for Merrimack Valley Wood Products for 35 years. Walter was also a former communicant of Our Lady of Good Counsel-St. Theresa’s Parish. Walter enjoyed playing cards and summer camping trips. Walter was the beloved husband of the late Elaine “Margaret” (Fluet) Deschene with whom he shared 53 years of marriage. He was the devoted father of Darlene Gaudette and her husband Mark of Salem, NH and the late Denise Schindler. Walter was the dear brother of Raymond Deschene and his wife Marie of Florida and James Deschene and his wife Gloria of Methuen. He was the loving grandfather of Kara Bowles and her husband Jason and Kurt Schindler. Walter was the cherished great grandfather of Brooklyn and Baylee. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and a special neighbor Nicole and her family. Friends and guests are invited to call on Tuesday, February 6, 2018 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence St. Methuen. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Good Counsel-St. Theresa’s Parish of Methuen. Interment to follow at a later date at Elmwood Cemetery of Methuen. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations in Walter’s memory be made to the High Pointe Hospice House, 360 North Ave. Haverhill, MA 01830.
