    Virginia C. "Ginny" (Hodgson) Barry

    November 25, 1923 - October 3, 2020

Virginia C. “Ginny” Barry, 96, of Methuen, passed away on October 3, 2020, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Lowell on November 25, 1923 to the late William and Delia (Shannon) Hodgson. After graduating from Lowell High School with the Class of 1941, Ginny went on to work at Ft Devens for the US Army and then transferred to the Internal Revenue Service as a Tax Examiner until her retirement. In 1951, she married the love of her life, the late John Barry Sr. They spent 46 wonderful years together. Ginny had many joys in life; some of which included traveling to Florida, gardening, decorating and reading the 100’s of books you could find around her home. She was a devout Catholic and a communicant of St. Monica’s Church in Methuen. Virginia also volunteered with the St. Claire’s League as well as the Bread and Roses in Lawrence. Ginny is survived by her five children: her daughter Mary V. Stranger (Robert) of Panama City Beach, FL, her daughter Kathleen B. Stranger (Thomas) of Portsmouth, NH, her daughter Susan M. Lambert (Scott) of N. Hampton, NH, her son William H. Barry (Christine) and her son Michael C. Barry all of Methuen. She is the cherished grandmother to her seven grandchildren; Emily Stranger, Sarah Stein and Katie Stranger, Michael Lambert, Ryan, Michael and Lauren Barry. She is also survived by one great-grandchild Jacob Stein and nieces and nephews. In addition to being predeceased by her husband and parents, Ginny is also predeceased by her son John Jr. and her brother Bill Hodgson and her sister Gertrude Sharkey. To honor the family’s wishes, all services for Ginny will be private. In lieu of flowers, please a consider donation in Ginny’s memory for her son, John Barry Jr., to the Department of Neurosurgery, Boston Children's Hospital, 401 Park Drive Suite 602, Boston, MA 02215-5301. Please include John Barry Jr. in the memorandum line or online at bostonchildrens.org/givenow. To leave an online condolence, please visit: www.pollardfuneralhome.com. The Kenneth H.
