Viola L. (Fowler) Gaffney
December 6, 1924 - April 30, 2020
Viola Gaffney of Methuen, 95, was a former resident of Salem, NH for 10 years. She also traveled and resided in many states while her late husband of 54 years, William Gaffney, served in the Navy. She was always ready to pack up the “dishes” and the kids at a moments notice. She loved her family; especially as it grew with all the Grandchildren and Great-grandchildren. She never forgot a birthday, anniversary, graduation, or whatever the occasion. One of her passions was quilting. She made beautiful quilts for each one of her children and each one of her granddaughters. She was a great cook! Anyone popping in on a Sunday could enjoy a home cooked meal with plenty to feed an Army, but in her case, it was the Navy. She not only made home-cooked meals every day, she also made a full breakfast every morning. She loved going to Bingo, playing Scrabble, and stopping at Yard Sales. She loved going to Foxwoods Casino. You just give her a call and she was in the driveway waiting with her quarters! She would do favors for anyone whether it be House-Sitting, Babysitting, Chauffeuring, Altering your clothes, Making Dance Costumes, Making Long Sleeves for your Sleeveless Prom Dress. Did we mention she was a great seamstress? You name it, she would do it for you. She was always busy, and was always on the go. Through it all she always looked great, and she never looked her age (she would always say it was the Noxzema!) Needless to say, Mom/ Nana will be deeply missed by everyone. She was a very, very Special Lady! Viola is survived by her son Robert Gaffney and his wife Jill of Arizona, her son Gordon Michael Gaffney and his wife Jeri, her son Frank Gaffney, her daughters Gail Carceo and her husband Robert, Karen Bohne and her husband James, all of Methuen. She is also survived by 14 Grandchildren and 6 Great-Grandchildren, a brother Joseph Fowler, and several nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late David William Gaffney, and the sister of the late Helen Craig and the late Mary Carrroll. All funeral arrangements will be private.
