Sahak “Sako” Kucukistepanoglu, 80, peacefully passed away at Lawrence General Hospital, surrounded by his two loving daughters, Katya and Karin Kucukistepanoglu, on January 6, 2022. Sahak, known to many as Sako, was born on February 5, 1941, in Istanbul, Turkey, and lived in Montreal, Canada, before migrating to Methuen in 1985. As a young man, Sako was a member of the Turkish national weightlifting team and later was co-owner and mechanic at the 5 Corner Getty gas station in Methuen. He loved deep sea fishing, having coffee with friends, watching sports, and traveling with family to Disney World, casinos, and summer getaways to the Cape. He was preceded by his loving wife of 51 years, Arusyak; and his parents, Mari and Nurandik. Sako is survived by his two beloved daughters, both of Methuen; his sisters, Madlen Arslanoglu of Methuen, and Haygul Rose Stepian of Andover; his brother, Avidis Kucukistipanoglu and his wife, Ovsanna, both of Methuen; his sister-in-law, Virgin Barsamoglu of Montreal; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Family and friends will be celebrating his life by gathering for his calling hours on Thursday, January 13th, 2022, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence Street in Methuen. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Friday, January 14th, at 11:00 a.m., followed by a burial at Elmwood Cemetery in Methuen. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his memory can be made to the Armenian Apostolic Church at Hye Pointe at 1280 Boston Road, Haverhill, MA 01835.
