Marie "Chickie" A. Spates

July 8, 1939 - February 17, 2022

Marie A. Spates, affectionately known as Chickie, age 82 of Lawrence passed away on February 17, 2022 at the Mary Immaculate Nursing and Restorative Center. Marie was born in Lawrence on July 8, 1939 to the late Frank and Sarah (Wells) Spates. She was a former longtime communicant of St. Michael’s Parish of North Andover. Her faith was strong and very important to Marie. Marie was very active at Nevins Adult Day Health Center in Methuen, and she will be remembered for her chatty spirit and sense of humor. She loved Elvis Presley and cherished the time she spent with her cat Shadow. Marie will be sorely missed by her dear friends at Marguerite’s House of Lawrence. Marie was the dear sister of Delia Lavoie of McLeansboro, IL, and the late Helen M. Turgeon. She is survived by her nieces Susan M. Yameen of Methuen, who cared for her for the past ten years, Sarah Taylor of McLeansboro, IL, and the late Renee Lavoie, and her nephews Frank Lavoie of Salem, NH and James Turgeon of North Hampton, NH. Marie is also survived by many great nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations in Marie’s memory may be made to Nevins Adult Day Health Center, 12 Ingalls Court, Methuen, MA 01844. Friends and guests are invited to call on Thursday, February 24, 2022 from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence St Methuen. A funeral service will be held immediately following calling hours, beginning promptly at 6:00 PM at the funeral home. Interment to follow on Friday, February 25, 2022 at 10:00 AM at the St. Mary-Immaculate Conception Mausoleum, 29 Barker St. Lawrence. Marie’s family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff at Mary Immaculate Nursing and Restorative Center where she spent the last weeks of her life and to the staff at Marguerite’s House Assisted Living and Element Care, who took such good care of her on a daily basis.
