Jane Todd Crawford Lipman, R.N. (z"l) Jane Todd Crawford Lipman, died peacefully on June 7, 2022, at the age of 92. Jane was born at home on her family's farm in Tilton, New Hampshire. She was the fifth daughter in a sprawling family of nine. From the moment that she learned to read, Jane had a lifelong commitment to learning and education. She was the valedictorian of her class at Mount St. Mary's Seminary in Nashua, New Hampshire, before obtaining her Master of Arts from Columbia University's Teachers College in New York City. In the 1950's, Jane was a supervising nurse at the Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City, where she met and fell in love with a young medical resident, Earl. The two courted in New York, and then across the Atlantic while she studied in France, before they married at Temple Israel in Manhattan. Their marriage was an epic partnership that lasted 66 years. Jane was a founding parent of Interim Junior High School, an open-enrollment school that offered racially-mixed classes in a community that, during the 1970s, was deeply divided by race. She organized and advocated for improvements in educational programs and for a time served as part of small group of advisors to then-New York State Education Commissioner Thomas Sobel. After her two boys were grown, Jane combined her twin passions, education and nursing, by serving as school nurse for several different school districts in the Rochester area. Jane was preceded in death by her parents and each of her siblings. She is survived by her husband Earl; her sons John and Eric; her daughters-in-law Jayne and Kimberly; six grand-children, Deborah, Meredith, Jonathan, Jennifer, Noah and Samuel; and dozens of nieces, nephews, colleagues and friends. There will be a special memorial prayer service at the Temple of Aaron, 616 Mississippi River Boulevard in Saint Paul, Minnesota, beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, June 12, 2022. Jane will be interred at a family gravesite in Lawrence, Massachusetts.
