    Hiram C. Smith

    May 30, 1940 - February 24, 2021

Hiram Carol Smith, born on May 30th 1940. He was born in Saint Stevens Canada. On February 24th at 10:15 AM, when the sun was shining bright and the weather was beautiful, the heavens gained the most amazing angel. He was surrounded by his family at his daughter’s home in Salem, NH. Hiram was a very strong and stubborn man at times, which made moments a little difficult but he was a true fighter. He battled with Congestive Heart Failure for years. He kept everyone going and giving. He was our foundation of our beautiful family. He was a very kind hearted man who always had the biggest smile. His influence and love was unconditional. The memories he has given us are endless and we are all forever grateful to have had him in our lives. Hiram was the son of the late Marion and Lemuel Smith. He is predeceased by his brother, Doran and his sisters Pauline and Marileen. He was raised and educated in Canada. As a young man he moved to Island Falls Maine and there he met the love of his life, his wonderful, caring, devoted wife of 66 years, Rita Marie Chapados. Together in their early twenties they settled and raised their family in Massachusetts. Hiram worked many years at Buy Rites Foods in Salem NH as a fork lift operator. He later worked for Smith’s Construction Co with his brother building homes in the Methuen area which he greatly enjoyed. He was a member of Mary Queen of Peace Church in Salem NH. He enjoyed spending time outdoors taking care of his lawn, his garden and conversing with his neighbors. Hiram had a passion for cars especially Ford Galaxy 500’s. He loved sitting in his shed at his home and also going over to his daughter’s home in Salem NH to sit on the porch and watch the cars go by. He truly was a very kind soul who looked out for everyone. The apple of his eyes was his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and his daughter’s dog,”Mr. Taco.” Hiram is survived by his beloved family member’s: daughter Victoria Lynn Lavoie and her husband, Jeannot of Salem NH, and his son Attorney Frank J Smith and his wife Susan of Methuen Ma. His grandchildren Timothy and his wife Brittany, Joshua and his wife Yolanda, Matthew and his wife Sherry, Alexander and Christina. His great granddaughter’s: Ayla, Ella, Madison, Savannah and Lydia. His siblings: Donna, Elizabeth, Kate, Marileen and Dean. Per the family’s request, all services are private. For online guestbook, please visit the funeral home website, www.pollardfuneralhome.com. The Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home is honored to serve the Smith Family.
