    Donald J. Coelho

    July 3, 1928 - December 11, 2020

Donald J. Coelho, 92, of Groveland, former longtime resident of Methuen, passed away peacefully at home on December 11, 2020. He was born on July 3, 1928 to the late Anthony and Amanda (Michaud) Coelho. Born, raised and educated in Methuen, Don graduated from the Searles High School with the Class of 1947. Like so many of his generation, he served his country honorably in the US Army during the Korean War era. A lifelong devout Catholic, Don was a communicant at Saint Monica’s Parish in Methuen. Don, in his younger years, owned and operated the Mobil Gas Station on Broadway in Methuen and was a member of the Carpenter’s Union Local #33, working at many job sites throughout the state until his retirement. As the beloved patriarch of his family, who had an amazing sense of humor, he was known for being selfless and had a love for teaching and passing on his knowledge, especially to the younger generations of his family. Don enjoyed watching sports and was a devoted Patriots fan. He touched many lives in many different circles and will fondly be loved, cherished and missed by all. Don is survived by his loving daughter, Maureen Coelho-Iwen and her husband Alan of Groveland, 5 grandchildren; Sam, Alex and Justin Iwen and Thomas and Jennifer Coelho, 5 great-grandchildren and his son. Additionally, he is survived by several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his dear wife, Clare (Penney) Coelho in 2008 with whom he celebrated 60 years of marriage, and his daughter Donna M. Coelho. Visitation for Don will be held on Monday, December 21, 2020 5 – 7 PM at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence Street, Methuen. Friends and family are cordially invited to attend. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 11 AM at Saint Monica’s Parish, 212 Lawrence Street, Methuen. To honor the family’s wishes, interment will be privately held. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Don’s memory to the Merrimack Valley Hospice, 360 Merrimack St Ste 9, Lawrence, MA 01843. Due to the current global pandemic and government regulations, facial covers are required to attend calling hours and the funeral mass, social distancing must also be observed.
